Constitution of
KSAA
February 1995
The Korean Studies Association of Australasia is a non-political,
academic organisation affiliated to the Asian Studies Association of
Australia for contact, communication and scholarly activities among
scholars concerned with the study of Korea.
Name
- The name of the Association shall be "The Korean Studies
Association of Australasia" (hereafter referred to as the Association).
Definition
- By "Korean Studies" is meant the academic pursuit of
knowledge and understanding of Korea.
Objects
- The Association shall be non-political and autonomous and
its objects shall be:
- to serve as a harmonious nationwide association of scholars
and educators interested in Korea representing all academic
disciplines;
- to promote the advancement of scholarship on Korea in
Australia and New Zealand;
- to facilitate communications between the various programs
and individuals in Australia and New Zealand involved in Korean
studies, through newsletters, circulars, etc.;
- to affirm and uphold the professional interests of scholars
interested in Korea;
- to represent the interests of the members to relevant
agencies;
- to represent Korean studies within the ASAA.
Membership
- Membership will be open to all persons and institutions in
Australia and New Zealand who support the objects of the Association.
- Members may be required to pay an annual membership fee to
the Association as determined by the executive committee.
- Membership shall expire when
- a member resigns from the association by notifying the
secretary in writing;
- the membership fee has not been paid within six months
after the due date.
Government
- There shall be an Executive Committee of the Korean Studies
Association of Australasia which shall administer the affairs of the
Association between general business meetings and in conformity with
decisions taken at those meetings.
- The Executive Committee shall comprise the President of the
Association, and between four and six other members, including a
vice-president, secretary and treasurer.
- The Executive Committee shall have power to co-opt members
in case of resignation or other need.
- The President and Executive Committee shall be elected by
majority vote of the general business meeting of the Association, and
shall serve until the next general business meeting of the Association.
- The President and at least two other Executive Committee
members should be substantially engaged in Korean studies.
- Four members of the Executive Committee shall constitute a
quorum.
- A general business meeting shall be held at the time and
the place of the biennial conferences of the Korean Studies Association
of Australia.
- The general business meetings shall be open to
participants, but voting rights shall be restricted to members of the
Korean Studies Association.
- The general business meetings shall be conducted, and the
affairs of the Association managed, in a manner consistent with the
objects of this Constitution and in conformity with the constitution and
by-laws of the Asian Studies Association of Australia.
Treasurer's Account
- The treasurer is to tender an annual account of the
finances of the Association
Amendments
- This constitution may be amended at business meetings.
- Notification of amendments shall be made to all members not
less than six months before the business meeting.
- An amendment shall require not less than two thirds of the
votes of members present at a properly constituted business meeting.
